MOESIA INFERIOR. Marcianopolis. Septimius Severus, 193-211. (Bronze, 27 mm, 13.38 g, 12 h), struck under the consular legate, Julius Faustinianus, circa 207-210. AY K CЄΠΤΙ CЄYHPOC Π Laureate, draped and cuirassed bust of Septimius Severus to right. Rev. (ΥΠ) ΦΑΥCΤΙΝΙΑΝΟ[Υ] MAPKIANOΠΟΛΙ/ΤΩΝ Dionysos standing facing, head to left, holding kantharos with his extended right hand and long filleted thyrsos in his left; at his feet to left, panther to left, his head turned backwards to face the God of wine. Cf. H&J 6.14.8.4 (obv. legend). Varbanov 784. Dark green patina with a few light earthen encrustations. Bold portrait. Good very fine.
