CORINTHIA. Corinth. Circa 375-300 BC. Stater (Silver, 21 mm, 8.46 g, 1 h). Q Pegasus with straight wing flying to left. Rev. Head of Aphrodite to right, wearing Corinthian helmet with a neck flap; behind neck, oinochoe and N. BCD Corinth 123. Calciati 378 corr. Some die rust on obverse and small graffito on the reverse, otherwise, very fine.

From the Vineyard Collection, ex Künker 46, 9 March 1999, 83.

The symbol on this stater, described in both BCD and Calciati as a hydria, is actually an oinochoe. The hydria was a three-handled Greek vase generally used for carrying water, and the vase on this coin clearly only has a single handle. The oinochoe was a jug used for carrying wine.
