CRUSADERS. Principality of Achaea. Guillaume II de Villehardouin, 1246-1278. Denier Tournois (Billon, 18 mm, 0.86 g, 7 h), Glarenza (modern Kyllini in Elis). +GV• PRINCEPS around cross pattée. Rev. +DE CLARENTIA Châtel tournois. CCS 8a. Metcalf, Crusades -. Tzamalis Φ 60 var. (reverse inscription). Scarce variety. Very fine.

From the Collection of a connoisseur, acquired prior to 1990s.

The presence of the "DE CLARENTIA" legend on the coins of Guillaume II is extremely rare, but in contrary it was widely used by his successors. Probably this coin was minted closer to the end of Guillaume's rule.
