Brutus with P. Cornelius Lentulus Spinther, early 42 BC. Denarius (Silver, 20.5 mm, 3.75 g, 12 h), military mint travelling with Brutus, probably at Smyrna. BRVTVS Axe, simpulum and knife. Rev. LENTVLVS / SPINT Jug to right and lituus to left. Crawford 500/7. CRI 198. Sydenham 1310. Some scuffs and minor scratches, otherwise, good very fine.



This rare coin was struck in an uncertain military mint in the East (Smyrna?) during the preparations for the war against Triumvirs.
