PERSIA, Achaemenid Empire. Time of Artaxerxes III, Circa 340 BC. Obol (Silver, 10 mm, 0.74 g, 12 h), uncertain Cilician mint. Forepart of lion to left, its head turned to face the viewer. Rev. Persian king or hero, wearing kidaris and kandys, standing right, holding dagger in his right hand and grasping the horn of a lion-griffin, on the right, standing rampant to left. Göktürk 39. Mildenberg, Kleingeld 37. SNG Levante 215. A rare type, struck from a carefully executed reverse die. Lightly toned. Minor marks, otherwise, good very fine.
