Sextus Pompey, 42-38 BC. As (Bronze, 29 mm, 12.74 g, 11 h), uncertain Sicilian mint. MAGN Laureate, Janiform head with the features of Cn. Pompeius Magnus. Rev. PIVS / IMP Galley prow to right. Babelon (Pompeia) 20. Crawford 479/1. CRI 336. Sydenham 1044. With a splendid double-portrait of Pompey and a fine olive-green patina. Good very fine.

This is unquestionably one of the finest and most elegant of all the 'portrait' asses of Sextus Pompey. It bears a wonderful double-portrait of Pompey the Great, striking for both its strength and its authority.
