ARKADIA. Megalopolis. Circa 320s - c. 275 BC. Triobol (Silver, 16 mm, 2.82 g, 12 h), struck in the name of the Arkadian League. Laureate head of Zeus to left. Rev. AR in monogram form Youthful Pan, nude, seated to left on a rock covered by his mantle, raising his right hand and holding lagobolon in his left; in exergue, below rock, syrinx; in field to left and right, Ν-Ω. BCD 1519. Dengate Period I, 1. Leu 79, 2000, 592 (same dies). Very rare. Attractively toned and of exceptionally fine style. Reverse lightly struck, otherwise, about extremely fine.

Ex LHS 102, 29 April 2008, 242 and Spink 55, October 1986.

This is unquestionably the rarest and most attractive of all the hemidrachms of Megalopolis: only a very few pieces of this quality exist (the BCD coin was inferior in every way).
