ISLAMIC, Anatolia & al-Jazira (Post-Seljuk). Artuqids (Mardin). Nasir al-Din Artuq Arslan, AH 597-637 / AD 1200-1239. Half dirham (Bronze, 24 mm, 5.34 g, 11 h), unlisted mint, possibly Mardin, AH 611 = AD 1214/1215. Nâsir al-Dunyâ wa al-Dîn Artuq Arslân Malik Diyârbakr (in Arabic) Bareheaded and draped bust facing slightly to left. Rev. Legend in five lines citing the Abbasid Caliph Al-Nasir in five lines; above, [Artuqid tamgha between two stars]; date in outer left and right margins. Album 1830.4. S&S Type 40. Very fine.



The prototype for the obverse of this coin was probably the facing Helios on the coins of Phodes.
