SICILY. Gela. Circa 450-440 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 25 mm, 17.23 g, 9 h). Quadriga driven slowly to right by a bearded charioteer; above, Nike flying right to crown the horses; in exergue, palmette with tendrils. Rev. ϹΕΛΑΣ Forepart of man-headed bull to right. Dewing 603 var. Jenkins 342. Toned and clear. Struck from slightly worn dies, otherwise, good very fine.

From the Stoecklin Collection, bought from Bank Leu in Zürich ex M&M 10, 22-23 June 1951, 192 and from the V.J.E. Ryan Collection part III, Glendining & Co., 24 November 1950, 1499a part of unillustrated lot.
