PHRYGIA. Julia. Cornelia Supera, wife of Aemilian, 253. Triassarion (Bronze, 28 mm, 9.09 g, 5 h), Philoteimos, archon for the second time. •ΓΑΙ•ΚΟΡ• CΟΥΠΕΡΗΝ /•CE• Diademed and draped bust of Cornelia Supera to right. Rev. ΑΡΧ•Τϕ - ΦΙΛΟΤΕΙΜΩ / ΙΟΥΛΙΕΩΝ Kybele seated left on throne with two lions, holding patera in her right hand. RPC IX, 896. Scarce. With a brown patina and an interesting portrait. Considerable roughness and earthen deposits, otherwise, about very fine.

A very interesting coin: why did the people of the obscure Phrygian town of Julia issue coins in honor of one of the most obscure Roman empresses? .
