ΘEA PΩMH AΛABANΔE/Ω-N Roma seated left on cuirass, holding crowning Nike and sceptre; round countermark with bust of Artemis, to lower right. Rev. ATE/ΛEI/ OC in three lines within laurel wreath tied above and below. BMC 21. Very rare. Very fine.

CARIA. Aphrodisias. Gordianus III Pius, 238-244. Triassarion (Bronze, 35 mm, 26.01 g, 6 h). ΑV Κ ΜΑΡ ΑΝΤ ΓΟΡΔΙΑΝΟC CΕΒ Radiate, draped and cuirassed bust of Gordian III to right. Rev. ΑΦΡΟΔΕΙCΙCΙΕΩΝ The centaur Chiron standing to right, holding bow and arrow. MacDonald, Coinage, Type 184 (O232/R426). SNG von Aulock 2462 (same obverse die). Weber 6407. Attractive green patina and with an interesting and unusual reverse type. Some scratches, probably adjustment marks made to the flan prior to striking, otherwise, good very fine.
