Mark Antony and Octavia, 39 BC. Cistophorus (Silver, 28 mm, 11.70 g, 12 h), Ephesus, summer-autumn 39. M•ANTONIVS•IMP •COS• DESIG•ITER ET•TERT• Conjoined heads right of Mark Antony, wearing ivy wreath, and Octavia, to right. Rev. III·VIR – R·P·C· Dionysus, holding cantharus and thyrsus, standing left on cista mystica; to left and right, two interlaced serpents with erect heads. RPC 2202. Sydenham 1198. Very nicely toned. Bang on the obverse and traces of corrosion, otherwise, good very fine.
