CALABRIA. Tarentum. Circa 270-235. Stater (Silver, 20 mm, 6.58 g, 3 h), struck under magistrates Euph.., Ariston and Zop... EYΦ/ API-ΣTΩN Naked horseman to left, wearing crested helmet and holding the reins with his left hand and an ornamented shield with his keft. Rev. ΤΑΡΑΣ /ZΩΠ Phalanthos, nude, riding dolphin to left, holding hippocamp in his right hand and trident in his left. HN III 1044. SNG ANS 1238 (same obverse die). Vlasto 928 (same dies). Lightly toned; a rare variety. Very minor die break on the obverse, and slightly off-center, otherwise, good very fine.

ΔAIMAXOΣ Nude ephebe, holding lighted torch in his right hand and reins in his left, riding horse galloping to right; behind, monogram. Rev. ΤΑΡΑΣ Phalanthos, nude, riding dolphin to left, holding a trident with his right hand and kantharos in his upraised left; to right, monogram. HN III 1053. Vlasto 938-939. A lustrous and sharp example, struck in good silver. Nearly extremely fine.

ΔAIMAXOΣ Cuirassed warrior, brandishing spear in his right hand and the reins in his left, riding horse galloping to right; behind, his raised hand, wreath. Rev. Τ-ΑΡΑΣ Phalanthos, nude, riding dolphin to left, holding cornucopia with his right hand and kantharos in his upraised left; to right, tripod. HN III 1055. Vlasto 942 (this reverse die). A lustrous and bright example. Good very fine.
