IONIA. Smyrna. Circa 170-145 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 36 mm, 16.56 g, 12 h), Menekrates. Turreted head of the Tyche of Smyrna to right. Rev. ΖΜΥΡ / ΝΑΙΩΝ in two lines within an oak wreath; below inscription, monogram of Menekrates. BMC 4 (this obverse die). Milne, Autonomous 141. Milne, obverse die A. Attractively toned and well-centered on a broad flan. Marks, scuffs, and both a cut and some file marks on the edge at 6° (traces of a removed loop?), otherwise, about extremely fine.

From a European collection, the Deyo Colection, ex Classical Numismatic Group 90, 23 May 2012, 596 and Coin Galleries, 10 April 1991, 123.

Interestingly enough, when this coin appeared at auction in 2012, the careful work done to a very small section of this coin's edge was overlooked.
