Holy Roman Empire. Charles VI, 1711-1740. Medal (Silver, 43mm, 30.13 g 12), on the Peace of Passarowitz between the Holy Roman and Ottoman Empires, by P. H. Müller, Augsburg, 1718. ELIGE ALTERVTRVM (=choose one or the other) Eagle, holding sworn and palm, flying over the city of Constantinople; at the bottom right of the scene, M; in exergue, arms within a cartouche. Rev. OB / INDVCIAS / TVRCIS / CONCESSAS / MDCCXVIII // PASSAROVIZI. / D. XXI. IVLI. (= for the same of the truce conceded by the Turks in Passarowitz, 21 July 1718) Inscription within olive wreath. Forster 818. Julius 1329. Montenuovo 1530. PiN 485. Extremely rare. Beautifully preserved, sharp and very nicely toned. Virtually as struck.


The obverse of this medal provides a view of the fortified city of Constantinople, viewed from Pera on the opposite side of the Golden Horn. It is particularly detailed and is probably derived from contemporary engravings with the city view.
