Anastasius I, 491-518. Solidus (Gold, 21 mm, 4.45 g, 6 h), Constantinople, 1st officina (A), 491-498. D N ANASTA-SIVS P P AVC Helmeted and cuirassed bust of Anastasius facing, his head turned slightly to right, wearing cross diadem, holding a spear with his right hand and a shield, ornamented with a horseman, over his left shoulder. Rev. VICTORI-A AVCCC A / CONOB Victory standing left, holding long cross; behind her, eight-pointed star. DOC 4 (1st officina not recorded). MIBE 4. SB 3. Unusual with the cross diadem on the obverse. Clear, sharp, and well-struck. Damaged eye and a flan flaw on the reverse, otherwise, extremely fine.
