PHRYGIA. Amorium. Augustus, 27 BC-AD 14. (Bronze, 21.5 mm, 6.12 g, 1 h), Menelaos, son of Menekrates. ΣEBA-ΣTOΣ Bare head of Augustus to right; lituus before. Rev. [M]ENEΛAOY MHNOKPA[TOYΣ] Eagle standing right on uncertain object, with caduceus over his shoulder. RPC S2-I-3230A (same dies, but it shares the same obverse die with RPC 3230). This magistrate is unknown and precedes the issues of Kallippos Alexandrou. We know this because while our issue utilizes the Hellenistic Σ, those of Kallippos Alexandrou use the lunate C. Reverse struck off-center, otherwise, very fine.
