PHILISTIA (PALESTINE). Uncertain mint. Later 4th century BC. Obol (Silver, 8 mm, 0.67 g, 7 h), an imitation of an Athenian obol, made in the Gaza area for local use. Coarsely made head of Athena to right, wearing crested Attic helmet adorned with three olive leaves and palmette. Rev. AΘE Owl standing right, head facing; behind, olive sprig and crescent. For the prototype, see Svoronos pl. 22, 1-6. Nicely toned. Unusual oblong flan, otherwise, about very fine.

From an American collection, bought, according to its ticket, on 19 January 1977 from an unknown source.
