BYZANTINE WEIGHTS, Eastern Mediterranean/Aegean Area. Circa 11th-13th century. Weight of 2-ounkia (Bronze, 32x26x13 mm, 53.56 g), a deep bowl-shaped commercial-weight with a centering hole enclosed by two concentric circles on the interior bottom and, barely visible, on the exterior; rim ornamented with three concentric circles, and edge ornamented with four. Cf. CPAI 3, 2, 685 & 693. An attractive piece with a dusty, uncleaned, green patina. Nearly extremely fine.
