Holy Roman Empire. Maximilian I. 1486-1508-1519. Medal (Silver, 55.5mm, 41.52 g 12), original cast, unsigned but perhaps by Hans Daucher, Vienna, c. 1515. IMP CAES PIVVS MAXIMILIANVS P F AVG Bust of Maximilian to right, wearing berretto, fur robes and the Order of the Golden Fleece. Rev. ANNA RE PAN FI IN RO IM MAXI DESPONSATA Bust of Anna to left, wearing crown, robes and elaborate necklace. Habich I, 1, 38. A splendid, toned example, with all details finely strengthened after casting. Extremely fine.


Anna (1503-1547) was the daughter of Vladislaus II of Hungary and was under the guardianship of Maximilian after the death of her father. She was betrothed to Maximilian’s grandson Ferdinand (later Ferdinand I) and finally married him in 1521 when she came of age.
