KINGS OF MACEDON. Alexander III ‘the Great’, 336-323 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 24 mm, 17.21 g, 6 h), ‘Amphipolis’, struck under Philip III, c. 320-317. Head of Herakles to right, wearing lion skin headdress. Rev. ΒΑΣΙΛΕΩΣ ΑΛΕΞΑΝΔΡΟΥ Zeus seated left on throne, holding a vertical scepter in his left hand and, in his right, eagle standing right with closed wings; to left, crescent; below throne, Π. Price 123. Troxell, studies, issue J5. Toned, well-struck and particularly attractive. Extremely fine.
