CALABRIA. Tarentum. Circa 290-281 BC. Stater (Silver, 21 mm, 7.85 g, 8 h), Philis, magistrate. Nude rider on horse prancing to right, holding round shield, two lances, and spear. Rev. ΦIΛIΣ Phalanthos seated astride dolphin to left, holding a spindle over his left shoulder; behind, eagle standing to left. Fischer-Bossert 1065 (V402/R816). HN III 933. Vlasto 570-572. Toned. Struck from a slightly worn and broken obverse die, otherwise, very fine.
