Hammer Price:  850 CHF
Lot 126

CELTIC, Northeast Gaul. Nervii. Circa 2nd century BC. Quarter Stater (Gold, 12 mm, 1.95 g), "Gallo-Belgic" issue, 'à la lyre' series. Die defaced with chisel marks. Rev. Chariot drawn to left by a single horse, below, lyre; partly defaced with chisel marks in the die. Delestrée & Tache 97 var (denomination). A fresh example struck on a tight flan. Nearly extremely fine.

Ex Hess Divo 335, 6 December 2018, 70.

Although the weight is typical for a quarter stater, this coin was probably struck from dies intended to strike half staters (Delestrée & Tache 97).
