SICILY. Mercenaries. Uncertain, 344-336 BC. (Bronze, 13.5 mm, 2.04 g, 10 h). Horse galloping to right. Rev. Ivy leaf on stem. CNS III 1. HGC 2, -. CNG 60 (2002) 225. Very rare; green patina with some earthen highlights. Very fine.

From the Vineyard Collection, ex Fred Shore FPL 90, September 1999, 72.

Although unrelated chronologically, the reverse of this coin is very close to the Onkia of Naxos (Cahn 148) minted almost a century earlier. It is thought that DG will shortly embark on a chronological-stylistic analysis of ivy leaves on Greek coinage – we await the results with great interest.
