SICILY. Nakone. Circa 420-400 BC. Tetras or Trionkion (Bronze, 17 mm, 5.69 g, 6 h), beveled flan. Youthful Dionysos seated sidesaddle on an ass walking to left, holding kantharos in his right hand and thyrsos in his left; around, three pellets. Rev. NAKONAION Head of a nymph to right, her hair bound in a fillet, wearing single-pendant earring and necklace. Antikenmuseum Basel, Sammlung Ludwig 381 (this coin). BNC 1. CNS 1. HGC 2, 956. SNG ANS 512. One of the finest known examples, and of superb Classical style. Good very fine.
