Mark Antony, 42 BC. Aureus (Gold, 19 mm, 7.01 g, 12 h), uncertain travelling with Antony, under the quatrovir P. Clodius. M·ANTONIVS·III·VIR·R·P·C Bare head of M. Antony to right. Rev. P·CLODIVS·M·F – IIII·VIR·A·P·F Winged and radiate male figure standing to left, with bow and quiver over his left shoulder, holding caduceus in his right hand and cornucopiae in his left; his right foot on globe; to left of globe, eagle on cippus; next to his left foot, shield. Babelon (Antonia) 19, (Claudia) 20. Bahrfeldt 45. Buttrey, ANSNNM 137, 45. Calicó 102. Cohen 73. CRI 144. Crawford 494/5. Of the highest rarity, one of only two in private hands, out of the ten known examples. Rather battered and worn. Fine.
