NETHERLANDS, The Dutch Republic. Plaquettepenning, or Hollow medal (Silver, 67mm, 40.55 g 12), on the Treaty of Nijmegen that ended the Dutch War between France and the Dutch Republic, by J. Dishoecke, 1678. LIBERTAS PACIS SOBOLES PRVDENTIÆ ALVMINA (=Liberty, daughter of Peace, nourished by Prudence) Hollandia seated facing, holding lance topped with cap of liberty, between Pax and Prudentia; at her feet, looking somewhat cross, Lion of the Netherlands; to left, cornucopiae with jewels and coins; to right, shield bearing the arms of Amserdam. Rev. OCCIDIT AD RHENVM NASCITVR AD VAHALIM / CIƆ. IƆC. LXXVIII. (=killed on the Rhine, reborn on the Vahal, 1678) Under a radiant sun, crowned shields bearing the crowned arms of France and the Dutch Republic joined by wreaths; below, view of Nijmegen with the Waal river. PiN 292. Van Loon III, pp. 233-234. A thin and bright ‘hollow medal’ with smoothed fields and slight roughness, otherwise, good very fine.
