NETHERLANDS, The Dutch Republic. Amsterdam. Medal (Silver, 60mm, 59.95 g 12), on the Peace of Westminster between Great Britain and the Netherlands; by J. Pool, 1654. AMANTIVM IRA AMICITIÆ REDINTEGRATIO EST (=the anger of lovers renews their friendship) Neptune, seated facing in a car drawn over the waves by two sea-horses, holding the shields of the Commonwealth and the Netherlands on his knees; to left and right, triton; to left and right of Neptune’s head, Jerian - Pool; below waves, fecit - Amsterdami. Rev. Laudatory inscription in 15 lines commemorating the Peace of Westminster, signed on 15 April, ratified on 2 May and proclaimed on 27 May 1654. MI, I, p. 416, 53. PiN 210. Van Loon II, pp. 371-374, iv. A splendid example with a lovely toning. Very, very minor edge marks, otherwise, good extremely fine.
