Medal (Silver, 44.9mm, 35.19 g 12), reward medal given to officers who took part in Maurice of Orange’s relief force, which forced the Spanish to lift the siege of Bergen in the Battle of the Slaak on 13 September 1631, won by the Dutch against a much larger Spanish fleet, 1622. FAVSTO NVMINE BERGA VICTRIX (=Bergen victorious by God’s grace) Crowned shield, bearing the arms of Bergen, with two wildmen as supporters. Rev. AVXILII PROTECTA TVIS 3 OCTOB 1622 (=3 October 1622, protected through your aid) Crowned Dutch lion rampant to left. Van Loon II, pp. 151-152, i. Beautifully toned and most attractive.
