LUCANIA. Poseidonia. Circa 410-350 BC. Nomos (Silver, 21.5 mm, 7.41 g, 4 h). ΠΟΣΕΙΔΩN Poseidon striding to right, brandishing trident and with chlamys over his shoulders; to right, dolphin swimming downwards. Rev. ΠΟΣΕΙΔΑΝΙΑ Bull standing left on ground line; [laurel spray to left] and dolphin swimming to left in exergue. HN Italy 1138. SNG ANS 687 (same dies). Beautifully toned, of the finest Classical style, and unusually well-preserved for these pieces. Some very minor marks, otherwise, good very fine.
