ARMENIA MINOR. Mithradates, as Satrap, 212-? BC. Tetrachalkon (Bronze, 19 mm, 7.53 g, 2 h). Bearded head of Mithradates to left, wearing bashlyk. Rev. mtrdt (in Aramaic) Bee flying upward. ACV -. CAA -. Kovacs 295 var (no inscription on obverse). Fine glossy dark green patina. Reverse struck slightly off center, otherwise, good very fine.

From the collection of Yerets’ Kariatin, Switzerland, ex Gorny &Mosch 165, 9.12.2017, 141.

Originally attributed to Mithradates I Ktistes of Pontos, but Kovacs pointed out that the bashlyk is more appropriate for a regional governor (Satrap) than a king, thus assigning this extremely rare series to Mithradates of Armenia.
