Julius Caesar, late February 44 BC. Denarius (Silver, 18mm, 3.77 g 2), struck under the magistrate M. Mettius. CAESAR IMP Laureate head of Caesar to right; behind head, lituus and simpulum. Rev. M METTIVS Venus standing left, holding Victory advancing left on her outstretched right hand, scepter in her left and resting her left elbow on a shield on a globe at her side; in field to left, G. Alföldi Type III, (Obv. 2 / Rev. 4, this coin). Babelon (Julia) 33, (Mettia) 5. Cohen 35. CRI 101. Crawford 480/17. Sydenham 1055. A superb, toned piece of great beauty. Good extremely fine.
