KINGS OF MACEDON. Alexander III ‘the Great’, 336-323 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 28 mm, 16.91 g, 12 h), struck between the reigns of Kassander and Antigonos II Gonatas, uncertain mint in southern Greece or Macedon, c. 310-275. Head of youthful Herakles in lion's skin headdress to right. Rev. ΑΛΕΞΑΝΔΡΟΥ Zeus seated to left on throne, holding eagle on his outstretched right hand and long scepter in his left; to left, Phrygian helmet with griffin crest right. Müller 855. Price 872. A well struck, nicely toned coin with a bold portrait and sharp details on the reverse. Nearly very fine.
