LUCANIA. Velia. Circa 340-334 BC. Nomos (Silver, 21 mm, 7.41 g, 3 h), from the "Θ" group. Head of Athena to left, wearing crested Attic helmet decorated with a griffin; behind neck, Θ. Rev. YEΛHTΩN Lion walking to right; above, Φ. HN III 1284. SNG ANS 1295-6. Williams 263 II (O.151/R.203). Struck from worn dies, otherwise, nearly very fine.



Williams notes that this obverse die was recut at some point. Our specimen was minted with this "phase II" die.
