Alexius I Comnenus, 1081-1118. Histamenon nomisma (Silver, 29 mm, 4.31 g, 5 h), Constantinople, 1081-1092. IC - XC Christ, nimbate, seated facing on lyre-backed throne, raising right hand in benediction and holding Gospels in left. Rev. + ΛΛEXIω ΔEC-ΠOT Tω KM Crowned bust of Alexius I facing, holding scepter surmounted by pelleted star in right hand and globus cruciger with globule on shaft in left. DOC 2c. SB 1893a. Noted as extremely rare and without a price in Sear, however at least five additional examples have appeared on the market in the past two decades. Flan cracks, otherwise, very fine.
