ΒΑΣΙΛΕΥΣ ΤΩΝ ΕΛΛΗΝΩΝ / 1911 Elderly head of George I to left; below truncation, in tiny letters, Γ. ΙΑΚΩΒΙΔΗΣ; privy marks cornucopia (for the Mint Director) and torch (for the Engraver General, Henri-Auguste Patey, 1896-1930) flanking the date. Rev. ΔΙΔΡΑΧΜΟΝ Veiled Thetis, seated to left on a hippocamp swimming to right, holding, with her right hand, the shield of Achilles adorned with a facing gorgoneion, and resting her left oat her waist. KYRENAIKA. Kyrene. Circa 500-480 BC. Drachm (Silver, 13 mm, 4.05 g), Attic standard. Two silphium fruits (seed pods?) base to base with three pellets between. Rev. Silphium fruit (seed pod?) within incuse square. BMC 18; SNG Copenhagen 1165. Toned. Somewhat porous, otherwise, very fine.
