LOWER DANUBE REGION. Imitation of Thasos. Late 2nd-1st century BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 32 mm, 16.38 g), imitating Thasos. Highly stylized head of a youthful Dionysos to right, the ivy wreath consisting of a jumble of Vs and Λs. Rev. Legend composed of two rows of pellets at the sides and a single row of pellets below Herakles, in the form of a stick figure, standing facing, holding club in right hand and cloak over left arm. Lanz -. Lukanc 1835 (different dies, but certainly by the same engraver or same school of engravers). OTA -. A spectacularly debased example. Good extremely fine.
